Jordan Eberle Signs for 6 years

The Edmonton Oilers have announced the signing of 22 year-old Jordan Eberle to a multi-million dollar contract worth $36 million for 6 years.  The signing comes days after the Oilers signed fellow forward Taylor Hall to a 7 year contract.  Eberle, whom I refer to as the,  'The slippery, human-high-light-reel" finished the 2012 season with 76 points in 78 games.

"I saw Taylor get his done and when they came after me to get mind done, there was a lot of excitement. said the Regina native. "I'm happy to be an Oiler. I want to be here for awhile.  With the direction the team is going, with a couple acquisitions this summer and everyone being a year older, we're going to be a team that's going to have a reputation for winning here in a little bit.  There's no other way to put it, we're both excited to be here."

With the two corner pieces firmly set into the foundation, the building of a Championship team however, is still in the making which will clearly need a little more time, money and resource.  And who of course but to leave that responsibility to GM Steve Tamebellini to fill the gaps.  So for so good, especially considering the acquisition of Nail Yakupov and defenseman, Justin Schultz to add to the plethora of extremely young talent, who have all the time to develop into top performers in the NHL and perhaps, earn a contract akin to Hall and Eberle.  These two signings for the Edmonton Oilers is exactly what the organization is trying to do: Send the message to the rest of the league, WE'RE GOING PLACES!

"It's sends message to our players that some our best young players are so committed to being here in Edmonton.  "It's not like they were looking for a two-year extention, they were willing to talk about committing the next 7 or 8 years here in Edmonton.  That's the type of commitment we need to get everybody on board.
