Oilers Update - Oilers Rookies Slay Canucks 7-2

The Edmonton Oilers Rookies defeated the Vancouver Canucks Rookies by a score of 7-2 last night at the Southern Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton BC.

The Canucks struck first when Darren Archibald slipped a beauty past Olivier Roy, but nearly a minute later it was winger Curtis Hamilton with the equalizer to end the 1st period.

In the second frame, Edmonton Oilers' Philippe Cornet; lit-the-lamp to put the Oilers up by one to begin the onslaught.

The Oilers received goals from Anton Lander, Martin Gernat, Antti Tyravinen and Drew Czerwonka.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was absolutely dangerous throughout game despite having the least amount of ice-time between three pivots.  Out of all of the Rookies, Nugent-Hopkins, was clearly the best player on the ice.  The Burnaby BC native probably could've posted 6 assists had his teammates converted on his crisp passing.

Bono, U2 may want to be like Lander.

The story of the evening was Anton Lander who lead the team with 2 goals.  Lander appeared to have one of his best games in recent memory and it looks as though the kid could be combating with Gilbert Brule for a spot at centre.

Lander finished the game with 2 points, +1 and 5 shots on goal.

The Oilers will take to the ice again this Tues as they will face the Winnipeg Jets Rookies.
